The look
What the VHS look includes
Recorded live by the same engine that renders the viewfinder, so what you see is what you save.
- Tape color. Softened image, warmer tint, and lower saturation, like a well-loved cassette.
- Color bleed and scanlines. Reds smear just past their edges and fine lines run through the picture.
- Tracking noise. A thin tracking tear drifts up the frame, with the head-switching wobble along the bottom edge.
- Camcorder audio. Light tape hiss and a filtered mic sit under your real audio, so voices stay clear.
- Date stamp and OSD. REC, timecode, battery, and the date in camcorder type. Use today’s date or pick one, like JUL 04 1998.
How it works
Three steps. No editing.
- 01Open HomeMovieCam. It opens straight into the camcorder viewfinder.
- 02Pick VHS in Settings. Choose a camera model and set the date stamp if you like.
- 03Press record. The scene lands on the tape you have loaded, ready to play back or share.

Is this a VHS filter or a VHS camera?
It is a camera. HomeMovieCam shows the VHS look live in the viewfinder while you record, and the saved video matches what you saw. There is nothing to edit afterwards.
Can I set an old date on the VHS date stamp?
Yes. In Settings, choose today’s date or a custom date for the camcorder date line. Your real recording date is still kept for the tape library.
Does the VHS camera record sound?
Yes. Your microphone audio is recorded with a light camcorder treatment, such as tape hiss and a softer mic, blended under the original sound.
Someday, today will be the old tape.
