Super 8 · Home movie film, 1965
Super 8 film,
shot on iPhone.
Before tape, there was film. HomeMovieCam’s Super 8 format gives weddings, trips, and summer evenings that warm, flickering home-movie feel, live as you shoot.
The look
What the Super 8 look includes
Recorded live by the same engine that renders the viewfinder, so what you see is what you save.
- Amber film color. Warm, golden tones with soft highlights, like a projector in a dark living room.
- Film grain. Organic grain across the frame instead of video noise.
- Gate weave and flicker. The picture drifts and breathes slightly, like film moving through a camera gate.
- Dust and scratches. Occasional specks and fine scratches, kept subtle so faces stay the focus.
- Film cadence. A slower, dreamier motion than normal video that still plays smoothly.
How it works
Three steps. No editing.
- 01Open HomeMovieCam. It opens straight into the camcorder viewfinder.
- 02Pick Super 8 in Settings. Choose a camera model and set the date stamp if you like.
- 03Press record. The scene lands on the tape you have loaded, ready to play back or share.

FAQ
Super 8 questions.
More answers on the Support page.
Is the Super 8 look added after recording?
No. You see the Super 8 look live in the viewfinder while you record, and the saved scene matches it.
Does the Super 8 format record audio?
Yes. Your microphone audio is recorded and kept clear, even though real Super 8 home movies were often silent.
Can I mix Super 8 with other formats on one tape?
Yes. Each scene keeps its own format, so one tape can hold Super 8, VHS, and Hi8 scenes and play back as one home movie.
