Found Footage · The tape in the attic
Found footage,
straight out of the camera.
For indie horror, Halloween, and anything that should feel like it was never meant to be seen. The Found Footage format gives you the cursed-tape look live, with no post-production.
The look
What the Found Footage look includes
Recorded live by the same engine that renders the viewfinder, so what you see is what you save.
- Tape damage. Dropouts, tearing, and distortion that hint something went wrong with the tape.
- Unstable exposure. Brightness that wanders, like an old camcorder struggling in the dark.
- Heavy gain. Noisy, crushed shadows that make every corner of the frame feel uncertain.
- Date stamp. Stamp the scene with any date, like OCT 31 1999, for instant backstory.
- Real-time capture. Everything happens in the viewfinder, so you can frame the scare before you press record.
How it works
Three steps. No editing.
- 01Open HomeMovieCam. It opens straight into the camcorder viewfinder.
- 02Pick Found Footage in Settings. Choose a camera model and set the date stamp if you like.
- 03Press record. The scene lands on the tape you have loaded, ready to play back or share.
Made for
- Horror shorts

FAQ
Found Footage questions.
More answers on the Support page.
Is Found Footage a filter for existing videos?
No. It is a recording format. You film through the found-footage look live, and the saved video matches the viewfinder.
Can I make found footage look like it is from the 90s?
Yes. Set a custom camcorder date, such as OCT 31 1999, and it is stamped on the scene along with the timecode.
Is the Found Footage look too damaged to watch?
It is intentionally heavy but still watchable. For a lighter analog look, record the same scene on VHS.
